The city of Thousand Oaks has been recognized by the state of California for designing, implementing, and operating model programs that support waste reduction and recycling.

Award-winning programs include monthly hazardous waste collection, cost effective curbside recycling, community and neighborhood improvement grants, and home composting workshops.

The city has reduced landfill waste by more than 50 percent since 1990. All of these program efforts contribute to saving landfill space, energy, and recycling resources.
