The City of Santa Barbara, Calif. has initiated many ways the city can work to maintain its green beauty. The Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County launched a new program designed to help businesses throughout the county "go green and save green."
The program recognizes businesses that go above and beyond required measures to serve as models of sustainability. It also helps businesses save money and enhance the environment. Businesses work with a checklist tailored to their industry type to address waste reduction and recycling, environmentally preferable purchasing, energy conservation, water conservation, air pollution prevention, and transportation. The program is free of cost, voluntary, and offers assistance and incentives, including an official Green Business certification and promotion upon completion of the recommended actions.
The City of Santa Barbara has also launched city- and county-wide initiatives that deal with waste prevention; water quality, conservation and habitat restoration; energy management; and land use.
