IT'S NOT ALL HOT AIR! - Philadelphia company develops economical solar thermal powered air conditioner.
A prototype 10 ton system was recently tested that uses solar heated air as its main power source. Only 10% of energy used is electric. It processes outside air, removes any level of humidity, cleans the air of all known bacteria and viruses. The system pays back in about 3 years and has built in energy storage for low solar days.
Also available in 2012 are units that double the efficiency of existing rooftop units by using the waste hot air from the condenser coil. Payback is 2 years.
Interest is sought from city sustainability offices.
