Recipient: Crawford County Road Commission
Funding Agency: Forest Service
Grant Amount: $41,128
Local Amount: $41,128
Grant Description: Construction and maintenance of fuel breaks along County and Forest Service Roads reduces road brushing and clearing costs over the long term. Funding source allows the CCRC to maintain current staffing levels and/or hire employees to assist with the project work, preventing layoffs.
Catastrophic wildfire can cause watershed degradation and erosion which damages road systems. Fuels management and fuel breaks will reduce the potential size and impacts of these fires reducing road repair costs in the long term.
Public safety will be improved along roads with adjacent fuel breaks by providing sight distance to motorists to reduce the number of vehicle/deer collisions and reducing the chance of fallen trees becoming hazards in the roadway.
Increase capacity to accomplish identified fuels treatment projects. Reduces travel distance to project locations saving fuel and meeting environmental management objectives of the agency.
