Grant Description: Preservation and Rehabilitation of the Bureau of Land Management-owned Henneberry/Ney House in Montana. This project will provide documentation and stabilization of the Ney Ranch/Henneberry Homestead House in Beaverhead County, Montana. Expected outcomes are a Historic Structure Report (HSR) for the house, including identification of key structural issues, and as funding allows, repair of prioritized structural issues according to the Secretary of Interior Standards for Rehabilitation. The project will also identify potential reuses for the property, such as a recreational rental property.

Project Description: Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) conducted background research on the Henneberry/Ney Homestead, prepared a draft outline for the Historic Structures Report for the BLM-Dillon staff to review, and met with the BLM-Dillion staff via conference call and again in person to initiate the project and tasks. Employed a structural engineer to accompany us on a field visit to survey and document the architecture of the house. Began research, review and edit of historic context for inclusion in the Historic Structures report. Collected and sent construction materials found in house to independent lab facility for identification and analysis.

Job Creation: MPA's ARRA grant had a grant period start date of March 1, 2010. As the project progresses, MPA will dedicate many hours to the project and contract with a number of service providers. The hours to be reported on future quarterly reports will reflect greater job-creation.
