Grant Description: Invest in public transportation with New Starts funds to be used for the East Side Access (ESA) project. These funds will be several contracts: pre-order of construction materials for Harold Interlocking; pre-order material for third party systems; the Queens bored tunnel contract; 44th Street Vent Structure and 245 Park Avenue Entrances; Madison Yard Demolition; Harold Structures part 2.

Project Description: The grant includes contracts for one New Starts infrastructure project, the East Side Access (ESA) project. The construction contracts were awarded and Contractor work is underway. These funds are being used for several contracts: pre-order of construction materials for Harold Interlocking; pre-order material for third party systems; the Queens bored tunnel contract (site preparation); 44th Street Vent Structure (underway) and 245 Park Avenue Entrances (underway); Madison Yard Demolition (underway); Harold Structures part 2 (mobilization). The construction project is being managed by MTA Capital Construction and the completed ESA branch will be operated by MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).

Job Creation: The MTA has awarded contracts to third party vendors for the transit projects noted in the Project Activities Description. For the quarter ending 3/31/2010, jobs created/retained totals 281.78 FTE, and includes: 86.52 FTE Vendor Office/Administration 177.20 FTE Vendor General Construction (eg, truck drivers, timberman, etc.) 17.85 FTE Vendor Technical Trades (eg, surveyors, electricians, plumbers, etc.) For this quarter?s report the MTA has recorded 488 hours available, and that is the denominator used for the FTE calculation.
