FORT WORTH, Texas -- Fort Worth’s Stormwater Operations team came up big at the 2017 Texas Public Works Association Awards, earning recognition in several categories.
Stormwater Field Operations received the 2017 Operations Excellence award for the Tracer Channel restoration project in far north Fort Worth. This project removed excess sediment, added turf-reinforcing mats and additional erosion protection, extended headwalls, and installed a low-flow channel. The Tracer Channel restoration project was also awarded the In-House Project of the Year-Structures award.
In addition to the TPWA awards, the Tracer Channel restoration project received the December 2016 Stormwater Solutions magazine Top Project Award.
Senior equipment operator Daniel Cardona received the TPWA Operations Excellence-Individual Award for his significant impact on maintaining storm drainage channels. Cardona has worked for the city for 30 years. His work resulted in significant man hour savings, reduced project cost and a new design that makes it easier to conduct subsequent maintenance work on drainage channels.
