In a scene played out at recycling centers across the country, plastic bags clog disc screens at the Sunnyvale Materials Recovery and Transfer (SMaRT) Station in Sunnyvale, Calif. Damage to the equipment was one of the motivations for the city banning certain retail stores from distributing single-use carryout plastic bags earlier this year.
