FORT WORTH, Texas -- A message from Mayor of Fort Worth Betsy Price: You’ve heard me say it many times, Fort Worth has got to get moving!

With public transit being among our top priorities, today we appointed a passenger rail working group to accelerate the TEX Rail and other passenger rail initiatives. Truth be known, I’m not satisfied with the current pace to bring convenient commuter rail to Fort Worth. We simply must move quickly and strategically to bring more public transit options to our citizens, workers and visitors.

TEX Rail is a proposed commuter rail line that would extend 37 miles from southwest Fort Worth to Dallas/FortWorth International Airport. But, TEX Rail is only the beginning. We must also continue to evaluate other commuter rail, high-speed rail and inter-city rail projects.

We have to stop developing a city around cars and trucks only. These rail projects will play a crucial role in supporting the growth in Fort Worth. We need transportation choices, and that’s what this working group will be focused on.

The 13-member ad hoc committee we appointed today, in partnership with the Fort Worth Transportation Authority and others, includes major decision makers who will help push our rail transit projects forward.

Councilmember Jungus Jordan will serve as the chair of this important group.

Our new Passenger Rail Working Group will provide the City Council with at least quarterly progress reports, and more updates as necessary.
