Details

Sustainable City Network will host a 6-hour online course June 12-14 on the identification and proper handling of three environmental hazards commonly found in older buildings.

Navigating Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint and Crystalline Silica in Older Buildings is an entry-level course that will provide baseline knowledge about Asbestos, lead-based paint and Crystalline Silica.

Conducted in three 2-hour sessions, this course is intended for any personnel who perform maintenance, inspection, custodial or other work that might bring them into contact with these potential hazards. It is highly recommended for anyone engaged in remodeling, renovation, demolition, historic preservation and/or brownfield redevelopment projects involving older buildings. Attendees will learn how to identify potential sources, understand the health hazards and protect themselves and others against exposure. It will also address a recent change in OSHA's regulations regarding Crystalline Silica and will cover how this change affects various businesses and industries.

Sessions will be held on June 12, 13 and 14, 2018. Each session will be recorded on video, so if registrants have to miss a live session, they'll have access to the recording on the following day and for 30 days thereafter. Cost is $330 when purchased by May 30 (a $380 value). Group rates are also available.

All class sessions begin promptly at 10 a.m. Pacific, 11 a.m. Mountain, Noon Central and 1 p.m. Eastern.

The intended audience includes building inspectors, maintenance/custodial workers, renovation/preservation/demolition engineers and contractors, energy auditors, healthy home inspectors, public housing staff, home health care providers, emergency personnel, facility managers, educators, environmental health professionals, brownfield redevelopers, fire/police officials, and anyone working temporarily or permanently inside older buildings.

Please note: this training does not apply towards any professional licensure requirement, nor does it go into depth on abatement procedures. It is intended to teach attendees how to recognize and understand Asbestos, lead-based paint, and Crystalline Silica health hazards and protect the personal safety of those working around these materials.
