If you looked at the costs and benefits of an energy-efficient lighting a few years ago but didn't pull the trigger, you might want to look again. LED and other energy-efficient lighting technologies have been rapidly evolving; industry standards have been established and codified; and prices have plummeted to the point where high-efficiency lighting solutions that were "almost there" a few years ago have officially "arrived" today.

After testing 6,600 LED streetlights for more than a year, the city of Las Vegas decided to convert a total of 42,000 streetlights to new solid-state LED lamps and fixtures. The savings in energy and maintenance is expected to be $2 million per year, with a return on investment in seven or eight years.
