LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- National Governors Association Chair Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval gathered representatives from more than 25 states to discuss transportation innovations happening at the state level. The meeting was part of Gov. Sandoval’s NGA chair’s initiative, Ahead of the Curve: Innovation Governors.

"Transportation is a rapidly evolving area that is reshaping not just the present, but also the future," said Gov. Sandoval. "New connected, automated and electric transportation technologies are transforming our world and altering the ways businesses and industries operate, affecting every aspect of our lives.

"We are living in a time when the science fiction we grew up with is becoming reality."

The 2018 Consumer Electronics Show served as a backdrop for the summit, which delved into topics such as autonomous and electric vehicles, drones, ridesharing and more.

Recently, Sandoval gave a one-on-one interview about how state governments are proactively planning for technological disruption, including within the areas of workforce, communications, infrastructure and cybersecurity.

Later that morning, representatives from Amazon, Lyft and Uber, as well as self-driving car company Waymo and electric vehicle company Proterra, participated in a panel with Gov. Sandoval about how government and the private sector can work together to take full advantage of technological transformation.
