Download a recording of the April 26, 2012 webinar "Saving Water with Smart Meters and Citizen Engagement Technology,"which describes how the city of Dubuque, Iowa, joined forces with IBM Research to conduct a Smarter Water Pilot Study, which corresponded with the city's water meter change-out program.

Sponsored by A.Y. McDonald, this free one-hour webinar will introduce attendees to this the study's findings.

Equipped with smart meters, unmeasured flow reducers and a web portal that allows homeowners to access real-time data about their water consumption, study participants used 6.6 percent less water, saving 3,409 gallons per household annually. The intelligent system warns homeowners about potential leaks, and the UFR helps the meter register even the tiniest of drips.

The two work together to identify wasted water and give residents an incentive to fix leaks. The web portal shows users how their water consumption compares to like-sized households and engages them in conservation competitions that are fun and effective.

The video recording is downloadable for free and requires Windows Media Player. The download includes the speakers' presentation slides (PDF).
